paralegal is a person qualified through
education, training or work experience to
perform substantive legal work that requires
knowledge of legal concepts and is customarily,
but not exclusively, performed by an attorney.
A
paralegal may be retained or
employed by a an attorney, law office,
governmental agency or other entity or may be
authorized by administrative, statutory or court
authority to perform certain work.
One function of a paralegal is to prepare legal
documents for attorneys.
Paralegals
can assist in preparation of documents for, but cannot give legal
advice to consumers of legal services.
Paralegals cannot represent a client in court, cannot take a legal case or set
a fee arrangement for a legal case.
